Biography: Since 1989, Mrs. Helen Arbini has been one of Mercy's primary English and Literature teachers. She has her MA from the University of California at Davis, her BA from University of the Pacific, and her Single Subject Teaching Credential in English from Simpson University. While at Mercy Mrs. Arbini has taught freshman, sophomore, junior, and AP English classes. Mrs. Arbini is also a Student Council advisor and the teacher representative to the Parent Guild.

Biography: Ms. Michelle Ashurst began teaching at Mercy High in 2006. She received her Bachelor of Science in Spanish and Biology from the University of La Verne. She also earned her California Teaching Credentials from ULV, where her interest in teaching began while assisting with general biology labs. Ms. Ashurst holds a Multiple Subjects Credential and Single Subject Credentials in Spanish, Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Introductory Physical Sciences. Ms. Ashurst has a CLAD Certificate that allows her to teach English as a Second Language. At Mercy, she is one of the sophomore class advisors.

Biography: Mrs. Bauer was born and raised in the North state, a graduate of Anderson High School. After two years at the University of California Davis, she transferred to the University of Minnesota, where she received a B.S. in Food Science. Mrs. Bauer worked many years as a lab technician, in an animal hospital (while raising three children). Eventually, she went back to California State University Chico for her Multi-Subject & Life-Science credential. Mrs. Bauer has been here at Mercy since 1994, serving as the Dean of Students. Her subjects include math and science, including: AP Biology, Algebra1, Chemistry, and Physical Science.

Biography: Mr. Jerry Begley has been working for Mercy High School since 1990. He is the one responsible for keeping the physical plant clean, and he's always there to offer a friendly smile. Jerry is always looking for volunteer help for special projects that include landscaping, painting, power washing, and window cleaning. Any family can contact Jerry if they wish to provide service hours to the school. Jerry is available during the school year on campus from 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 11:30 am - 8:00 pm Friday. Biography: Mr. Richard Cherveny joined Mercy in 2001 as our campus minister and teacher. He has worked extensively with Sacred Heart Church in youth ministry and as a member of the liturgy committee. Mr. Cherveny brings an open and upbeat format to his classes. He has taught Christian Leadership, Christian Morality, Social Justice, World Religions, Church History, Old Testament, New Testament, Christian Living, Ethics, Yearbook Advisor , 3D Art & Design, and Art 1A-1B.

Biography: Mrs. Darlene Lee began teaching at Mercy High School in the fall of 2006. Darlene has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. Since her graduation she has traveled the western United States extensively with her husband in his job as a project engineer for the Federal Highway Administration. Darlene has been the past president of the Sacramento Valley Choristers Guild, which is an organization that promotes youth music in the churches. She has also taught classes for the National Choristers Guild in banner making. Darlene has been the organist and/or choir director for the Red Bluff Presbyterian Church for 14 years. Darlene is an enthusiastic director and looks forward to her new group of students who want to broaden their musical horizons.

Biography: Mrs. Donna Lindeman has been working with our English and Literature program since 1989. She teaches freshman honors and junior Advanced Placement English Language classes, as well as junior and senior religion. Mrs. Lindeman is also faculty advisor for the Friday Night Live Club and Student Council. Her BA in English is from California State University, Chico. She's married with three sons, three dogs, and one cat. She enjoys reading and watching the San Francisco Giants play baseball.

Biography: Mr. Mike Lyon graduated from California State University Chico and received his Teaching Credential in 1969. He came to Mercy High School in 1973, after two years at the army base in Georgia. He currently teaches World Geography, World History, United States History, and Advanced Placement United States History. Not only does he love teaching, he and his wife Kathy spend most of their time enjoying their grandchildren, Rhett, Maycey, Miranda, and Tanner. Also, in his spare time, he likes to play golf and watch the Forty-Niners beat the Rams.

Biography: Mr. Scott Matthews is a Mercy Alumnus from the class of 1994. He joined the faculty full time in 2000. He is currently teaching Advanced Placement Calculus AB and BC, Theater Arts, Advanced Placement Government and Politics: United States, Economics, and Pre-Calculus. He advises the Junior Class, and also serves as the director for the Madrigal Dinner and the Spring Musical. Students and Faculty alike are thrilled to have Mr. Matthews and his expertise on the Mercy High School team.

Biography: Mrs. Cheryl Ramirez is Principal and Guidance Counselor at Mercy High School. She began working at Mercy in the fall of 1980 after working as a social worker in Oakland and after teaching in Idaho. Mrs. Ramirez holds her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Sociology, along with a teaching credential, which was earned at Humboldt State University. After many years of teaching, Mrs. Ramirez returned to school and earned a Masters of Science in School Counseling, a Pupil Personnel Services credential from the University of LaVerne, and a Professional Clear Administrative Credential through Simpson University.

Biography: Mr. Jim Weber came to Mercy in 2000. He is an alumnus from the class of 1990 and is excited to have the opportunity to work in the Mercy Community. Jim has taught at Castro Valley High and Enterprise High School. Jim is Technology Coordinator, and works on the website, the maintenance of the school network, and fundraises for the schools technology needs. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science from the University of California at Davis, and a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Life Sciences. Mr. Weber coaches girls’ tennis and baseball. When not talking about his young daughter’s exploits, or his wife’s chiropractic practice, Jim enjoys basketball, computers, and reading, among other things.

Jennifer brings with her 24 years of bookkeeping experience and is excited to be a part of the Mercy family.
Mrs. Mary Agundes is the Attendance Clerk/Front Desk and the Guidance Secretary. She began working at Mercy in 2004. She is married with 5 sons and one daughter, who are all graduates of Mercy High School. In her free time, she enjoys reading, walking and playing with her grandson, Ronan.
